Famous US Golf Course Maps: Bethpage, Torrey Pines and More
Four American courses every golfer recognises, and what makes each layout worth hanging on a wall.
Some golf courses are recognisable from the map alone. The shape of a famous hole, the way a fairway bends around water, the routing of the front nine: golfers know these layouts the way other people know a skyline. Here are four American courses whose layouts make a strong poster, with a few facts about each.
Bethpage Black, New York
Bethpage Black sits in Bethpage State Park on Long Island and is a public course, which is unusual for a venue of this size. It has hosted the US Open in 2002 and 2009, the PGA Championship in 2019 and the Ryder Cup in 2025. A sign near the first tee famously warns that the course is extremely difficult. See the Bethpage Black course map print.
Torrey Pines, California
Torrey Pines is a public golf complex in La Jolla, San Diego, set on cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. Its South Course hosted the US Open in 2008 and 2021. The mix of ocean views and a serious test of golf is why it is on so many wish lists. See the Torrey Pines course map print.
TPC Sawgrass, Florida
The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach was designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1980. It is the home of THE PLAYERS Championship. The par 3 17th, played to an island green, is one of the best known holes in golf, and it reads clearly even on a small map. See the TPC Sawgrass course map print.
Shinnecock Hills, New York
Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, Long Island, was founded in 1891 and was one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. The US Open has been played here several times, including 2018. For a golfer who loves the history of the game, it is a print with a story behind it. See the Shinnecock Hills course map print.
